The Rise Of Electronic Dance Music (EDM)

Basically I had tried to explain what is Electronic Dance Music?, What is Sampling?, How it impacted our Indian Culture. etc.

EDM a Technology that changed the entire music industry | Here is why one should know about EDM:

Electronic Dance Music (EDM) technology came into existence in the year 1920s with very little funding. But today this technology is funding has reached up to Rs. 53250 crores. We can't even imagine how bonkers this industry is growing at such a pace. Before analyzing what is EDM let's understand what does electronic music means.

What is Electronic Music?

Theremin Instrument.

2 Antennas for Pitch and Sound

The electromagnetic field is created.

In simple words, we can say that there is an instrument called theremin with 2 antennas for pitch and volume, and in between an electromagnetic field is created when we play music in it. On the other hand, when an artist/musician makes any hand movements audio signals are transmitted without even touching an instrument.
Music is played on hand movement without touching the instrument.

But this instrument is very different from what it used to look like today. This is the electronic device music which was invented in 1920. It sounds like this...

So any music which is made from Theremin, Synthesizer, and Mellotron is called Electronic Music.

What happened today with those Theremins?

In the modern world, the same electronic music instrument Theremin is converted into computers. Did you know that the US has started to pay attention? in the year 1969. In the year 1977 India also entered into this whole ecosystem of Dance music. The first song was released by R.D Burman in which a technology called machine flanger was used. 4 years down the line this culture of electronic dance music became the mainstream of the Bollywood Industry.

The Goa Party Scene was started in the year 1988. When Israel's tourism ban was lifted then the Goa Party Scene became more lit. Now Indians also started to enjoy such music festivals. Here every year in these festivals crowd was uncontrollable as many DJs like David Guetta came into mainstream and even DJs from India were also doing well.

Sunburn in Goa:

In the year 2015, Goa's Sunburn festival has an attendee of 3,50,000 peoples. The price of 1 ticket was Rs.7000/-. These made the music festival a great market for investors. In an interview with Tatva K, a question was asked "When music Festivals came into the limelight in India?" He answered that "Rajaram started doing such activities but he used to get underground and after that, commercially Sunburn festival has literally changed the game.

From Bollywood to regional desi-songs electronic music has captured. Old songs remix were made and with the help of computers and the internet, it helped the raw producers & artists to make their presence in the streets of India.

All about Samples from past to today in Electronic music:

We can see that all these street presences and artists from the streets became popular because music became easy as today people have "Samples". Listen to this before understanding what is Samples.

I am sure most of them have heard this song and now listen to this.

After hearing these 2 songs you will feel that Jeniffer Lopez has stolen Bappi Da. Well No, listen to this as well.

This was the song that was copied from Jenifer Lopez.

Sampling is being  Criticised initially.

But the rise in technology of electronic music has led the sampling's future bright. Then the smartphone industry got raised as we know that today the majority of people using smartphones are 25 years old. The Internet made people enjoy music from all over the world. This not only made consumption of music more but also a good platform for startups to invest as the profit margins are high. Today the majority of music producers in India who make only samples are making ample money by selling them in the online markets.

Sampling's rise became more lit when the rap culture came to India. Today we see such producers which are famous worldwide and the popular DJs buy beats from them. It is that thing which is both time-effective and cost-effective. Initially, a song uses to come in the final stages for around 2-3 months. But today we can see that the same song is coming finally in 2-3 hrs because of Computers and the internet.

Conclusion:

We can see that change in time is needed and the human brain is hunting for curiosity brings new things and the existing things are being improvised and the same thing is done with music. Every second change in technology, music will bring big revolutions in the coming times. So till then enjoy it as always have been doing it.
